BEGGARY (Why is begging a curse)

Begging is a curse. It is a social problem in Pakistan. It has become a nuisance in big and small cities like Lahore, Karachi, Hydrabad, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. In our country, we are rather familiar with professional beggars. There are so many professional beggars who throng the streets of the towns. They sit on the pavements and obstruct pedestrians. The run after private cars, even invade tramcars and public buses.  Near a Masjid they  always muster strong. When a man is coming out the Masjid, he must give something to beggars; and if he gives something to one beggar ,he must satisfy the rest too. Otherwise they would pursue him.

Equipment of a professional beggars:. 

What are the equipment of a professional beggars? His dress is the most remarkable thing about him. It should b dirty and tattered.  Some of the beggars show  considerable  ingenuity in adoring themselves. Pieces of variously  coloured rages are patched together and from a multi_ coloured robe. A professional beggar at time wants to prove it to the charitable public  that he is wearing on various parts of the body that  many kind men give him on different occasions.  One man's pajama, another man's coat, another man's cap, occasionally even a pair of shoes which have seen. Either he has a pock_ marked, twisted face or a crippled limb or a crooked stoop. If he is blind  he is in the most favourable position . He knows it. It is to b supposed that ammong the many blind beggars who appeal pathetically to the charitable public  to take piety on them,some can see clearly enough. 

Appeal of a professional beggar:. 

The professional beggar cultivates a pleading , whining voice and a formula for calling upon God to bless the chartible man. Many inducements are held forth for doing chartible acts. It seems there is practically nothing, which u cannot gain if you give something to a beggar. The professional beggar know that he must make a double appeal. He must appeal to the people's Sense of pity , but he must also hold forth spiritual inducements, which often make practical men, do things, which they otherwise would never do.

Daily routine of a beggar:. 

The professional beggars daily routine is very interesting. He gets up early in the morning, and dresses himself in his professional garments, giving prominence to his scars, wound of disfigurements. All the time he chents some mournful song and his assistants reply in chorus. He is properly displayed to the public, and  makes a handsome income out of it. 

At night the the beggars vanish in slum areas, where they spend their night.  The solitary professional beggar dose not feel happy . Every professional beggar tries to have a secret hoard.  Some of them open savings bank account, but as a rule, they are not really so flush of money as some social reformers think them to b. There are days when the professional beggar starves. 

Hence, it is Time that higher authorities should take such measures and discourages biggnig in the city. The police should be given additional powers and responsibility to crack down on beggar nuisance. Examperly punishment, sufficient law and order should b imposed  on the professional beggars. Chartible organizations of the city should b encouraged to help those among the beggars. Concerned authorities should also play an active role for the aradication of this evil.
